An Animated Watershed Mural
lies at the heart of Living Downstream. Using game-like touch screen computer interfaces that activate a simulated flow of water on the mural, you learn about three important watershed themes:

  • the role of nutrients in aquatic ecosystems
  • how toxic chemicals affect life in the watershed
  • how ordinary people are helping water quality in their rivers and streams

The Animated Watershed Mural is the Centerpiece of Living Downstream

By Selecting a Theme
from the touch screen interface, (nutrients, for example, as shown below), you set in motion a sequence of events that might surprise you. You'll hear how nutrients are important to life in watersheds and how too many nutrients can have harmful effects. You'll also see where nutrients come from and how they get into rivers and streams.

Whether you select nutrients, toxic chemicals, or water quality, each animated sequence on the mural reinforces the underlying messages that

and
All Upstream Actions Have Downstream Effects!
