Nobody likes
picking up after his or her dog, but besides being
the right thing for the neighborhood, you'll probably be fined
if you don't.
When someone
pours used oil or left over paint on the ground or
down the storm drain, they're not only creating a serious pollution
problem, they're breaking the law.
The average home contains an average of six gallons of
hazardous materials that are potentially harmful to
waterways. If they are used incorrectly or thrown out in an improper
way, they can pollute the watershed and affect the quality of
life in rivers and streams.
The Academy's
Know Your Environment web site has all kinds of articles
on environmental issues and some, such as Pollution Prevention,
offer suggestions and tips on how you can be a better steward
of the natural world. Check out Resources
for links to more information, organizations, and other gateways
to learning and getting involved.
